More on Jesus’ Return and First Resurrection
After Jesus Christ said His final Words (as a man on earth) to His disciples, “… He was taken up into a cloud while they were watching, and they could no longer see Him.” Acts 1:9
This is referring to when Jesus ascended back up into Heaven…
His disciples where left looking up at the sky and, “As they strained to see Him rising into heaven, two white-robed men [angels] suddenly stood among them. ‘Men of Galilee,’ they said, ‘why are you standing here staring into heaven? Jesus has been taken from you into heaven, but someday He will return from Heaven in the same way you saw Him go!’ ” Acts 1:10-11
John the Apostle, in Revelation 1:7 writes, “Behold, He cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see Him, and they also which pierced Him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of Him. Even so, Amen. [i.e., “Even so, let it be.]”
Isaiah prophesied of this event, when he writes in Isaiah 19:1, “A prophecy against Egypt [which, now, represents the world of sin]: See, the LORD rides on a swift cloud and is coming to Egypt. The idols of Egypt tremble before Him, and the hearts of the Egyptians [i.e., the sinners: adulators, idolaters, LAIRS, etc.,] melt with fear.”
“At that time people will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory.” Mark 13:26
“At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.” Luke 21:27
“Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light [this is MUCH MORE than “blood moons”] and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
Then [i.e., “AFTER” the “Tribulation of those days”] will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory.” Matthew 24:29-30
‘Pre-Tribbers’ will often use the Verse, in 1 Thessalonians 5:9, “For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,” to argue against when God says He will return (at the last / seventh trumpet.)
But, the Tribulation is NOT God’s Wrath… it’s God’s refining fire!!!
God’s Wrath doesn’t get poured out unto the earth until AFTER the seventh / last trumpet… when, “Then I heard a mighty voice from the Temple say to the seven angels, ‘Go your ways and pour out on the earth the seven bowls containing God’s wrath.’ ” Revelation 16:1
God says we ARE appointed to tribulation… and the just along with the unjust will have to suffer because the unjust is the majority and they are too STUBBORN, BLIND, JEALOUS, PROUD, REBELLIOUS, and too IN LOVE with their IDOLS, to REPENT!!!
So, I, “exhort you in your faith, that no one should be moved in these tribulations, for you know that we are appointed for this. For even when we were with you, we told you in advance that we must pass through tribulations,…” 1 Thessalonians 3:3-4
Verse 13 of 1 Thessalonians 3 is the Verse that people (including me, once) have misinterpreted to say, “The ‘saints,’ i.e., ‘the Church’ is coming back with the Lord.”
The Verse, in the King James Version, states, “To the end He may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all His saints.”
And many other translations, in this case, also incorrectly translates the original Greek word “hagion” as “saints” for this particular Verse… the NIV, however, translates it as “holy.”
But… in Mark 8:38, ALL of the 21 translations that I have access to (you can have, too, here) translates the word, “hagion” as “holy,” as in…
“Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of Me and of My Words in this [spiritual] adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when He cometh in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.” (KJV)
Jude 1:14 (in the KJV) states, “And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of His saints,”
The other versions, however, translates the Verse with, “holy ones,” or “holy angels.”
And there’s PLENTY of other Verses, IN THE KJV, (as well as ALL other translations) that states that Jesus Christ is coming with His holy angels”!!!
“For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with His angels; and then He shall reward every man according to his works.” Matthew 16:27 (KJV)
“When the Son of man shall come in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then shall He sit upon the throne of His glory:” Matthew 25:31 (KJV)
AND the Bible states that we WILL suffer ” persecutions” and “tribulations”!!!
“Yes, and everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.” 2 Timothy 3:12
2 Thessalonians 1:4-10(KJV) states…
“So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure:
Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer: Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of His power; When He shall come to be glorified in His saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.”
The New Living Translation states it this way…
“We proudly tell God’s other churches about your endurance and faithfulness in all the persecutions and hardships you are suffering. And God will use this persecution to show His justice and to make you worthy of His Kingdom, for which you are suffering. In His justice He will pay back those who persecute you.
And God will provide rest for you who are being persecuted and also for us when the Lord Jesus appears from heaven. [At which time -I- will not be ashamed before Him… He says!!!] He will come with His mighty angels, in flaming fire, bringing judgment on those who don’t know God and on those who refuse to obey the Good News of our Lord Jesus. They will be punished with eternal destruction, forever separated from the Lord and from His glorious power. When He comes on that day, He will receive glory from His holy people—praise from all who believe. And this includes you, for you believed what we told you about Him.”
So, again, NO… we are not appointed unto Wrath but we ARE appointed unto tribulation!!!
And, in context of the Verse people WRONGLY use to as evidence of a “pre-trib Rapture,” 1 Thessalonians Chapter 3, Paul is writing to the CHURCH, “to exhort you in your faith, that no one should be moved in these tribulations, for you know that we are appointed for this. For even when we were with you, we told you in advance that we must pass through tribulations,” but, don’t worry, “stand fast” so that, “… the Lord make your love for one another and for all people grow and overflow, just as our love for you overflows. May He, as a result, make your hearts strong, blameless, and holy as you stand before God our Father when our Lord Jesus comes again with all His holy people.” (NLT)
Again, the KJV translated the word, “hagion” (this time) as “saints,” (other times as “holy“) but it’s referring to God’s holy angels… for, IF that where to mean the Church then we would not have to worry about having our hearts right before Him when He returns… because we’d be already WITH Him!!!
Again, like God’s Word says (as stated in my other post on the Resurrection), “Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, [i.e., the Resurrection]… Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin [the ‘antichrist’ / ‘beast’] be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.” 2 Thessalonians 2:1, 3-4
“It will happen in a moment, in the blink of an eye, when the last trumpet is blown. For when the trumpet sounds, those who have died will be raised to live forever.” 1 Corinthians 15:52
“For the Son of Man is going to come in His Father’s glory with His angels, and then He will reward each person according to what they have done.” Matthew 16:27
“For the Lord Himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the Christians who have died will rise from their graves. Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Then we will be with the Lord forever.” 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17
“But there is an order to this resurrection: Christ was raised as the first of the harvest [the ‘firstfruits’]; then all who belong to Christ will be raised when He comes back.
After that the end will come, when He will turn the Kingdom over to God the Father, having destroyed every ruler and authority and power.” 1 Corinthians 15:23-24
And, THIS happens at the “last trumpet,” at the “seventh trumpet,” when…
“… the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices shouting in heaven:
The world has now become the Kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ,
and He will reign forever and ever.’
The twenty-four elders sitting on their thrones before God fell with their faces to the ground and worshiped Him. And they said,
‘We give thanks to you, Lord God, the Almighty,
the one who is and who always was,
for now You have assumed Your great power
and have begun to reign.
The nations were filled with wrath,
but now the time of Your wrath has come.
It is time to judge the dead
and reward Your servants the prophets,
as well as Your holy people,
and all who fear Your name,
from the least to the greatest.
It is time to destroy all who have caused destruction on the earth.’ ” Revelation 11:15-18
“Then I saw thrones, and the people sitting on them had been given the authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their testimony about Jesus and for proclaiming the Word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or his statue, nor accepted his mark on their forehead or their hands. They all came to life again, and they reigned with Christ for a thousand years.
THIS is the first resurrection. (The rest of the dead did not come back to life until the thousand years had ended.) Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. For them the second death holds no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with Him a thousand years.” Revelation 20:4-6
And the “Blessed Hope,” referred to in Titus 2:13-15,… is NOT the hope of escaping the tribulation that we ARE appointed unto!!!… It’s, “… the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.”
Don’t worry,… I WON’T!!!
