Prayers from the Heart: Loving God and Living By His Standards

I Love You Lord

Jesus, My God and King,

I know that You hear me as I pour my heart out to You, and I thank You for listening, and answering, Lord. You are the only real and true God. May I never place anything above You in my heart, Jesus. That would be so foolish, there’s nothing in all of creation that’s better or more important than You.

Lord, I want to always live by Your standards, and I’m hiding Your word in my heart so that I will know all of Your Commandments very well. I love You, Lord, and I know that obeying You is the way that I can and should show that love (John 14:15). Even so, my love is imperfect and there are times that I fail. I will not give up, though, Lord, I’m trusting You to increase my love for You, and I’m trusting You to help me better obey You.

I know that You are my Advocate, and You forgive my sins when I repent. Thank You for the way You lovingly correct me Lord. Search me, reveal to me anything in me that grieves You, and I will forsake it. I love You, Lord, and I want my life to say that as clearly as my words do.

Prayers from the heart is a series of short prayers written with the intent of helping you in your prayer time. There is no ‘magic formula’ to prayer, and no set of written words that will make whatever you want happen. Simply pray from your heart, be honest with your Heavenly Father and remember that He loves you. If this prayer or any other prayers from this series make a good starting point for you, please feel free to use them!

Here are a few helpful scriptures about prayer, as well:

And we will receive from him whatever we ask because we obey Him
and do the things that please Him.
1 John 3:22

You can pray for anything, and if you have faith, you will receive it.
Matthew 21:22

And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask any thing according to His will,
He heareth us: And if we know that He hear us, whatsoever we ask,
we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him.
1 John 5:14-15

Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it.
And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—
you want only what will give you pleasure.
James 4:2b-3
