Prayers from the Heart: Delighting in the Lord

I delight in the Lord

Heavenly Father,

I take great delight in You, and Your word. The Psalmist said that you rescued him, taking him to a place of safety because You delighted in him, and my heart sings that same tune. As wonderful and awesome as You are – You…delight in me. It’s an overwhelming thought. Compared to the splendour of Your majesty and holiness there is not much in me to delight in. And yet You do. Truly, I think, the only thing in me there could really be to take delight in is…You, in me!

I love You so much, Lord. My heart is Yours forever. Being able to know You, love You, serve You, depend on You…these are all such wonderful things.

Your wisdom is perfect, Your word is truth, and Your commandments are for our good. May You always find in me a yielding, obedient child. I welcome Your hand of correction, because I know Your correction is for my good, and a sign of Your love for me. I love You, my wonderful Abba Father.

Prayers from the heart is a series of short prayers written with the intent of helping you in your prayer time. There is no ‘magic formula’ to prayer, and no set of written words that will make whatever you want happen. Simply pray from your heart, be honest with your Heavenly Father and remember that He loves you. If this prayer or any other prayers from this series make a good starting point for you, please feel free to use them!

Here are a few helpful scriptures about prayer, as well:

And we will receive from him whatever we ask because we obey Him
and do the things that please Him.
1 John 3:22

You can pray for anything, and if you have faith, you will receive it.
Matthew 21:22

And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask any thing according to His will,
He heareth us: And if we know that He hear us, whatsoever we ask,
we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him.
1 John 5:14-15

Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it.
And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—
you want only what will give you pleasure.
James 4:2b-3
